Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’
— John 1:45 (ESV)
Reflection: On Saint Bartholomew’s Feast Day, we remember Nathanael, who is widely believed to be Bartholomew, one of Jesus’ twelve apostles. When Philip told Nathanael about Jesus, his initial skepticism turned into faith when Jesus revealed His divine knowledge. Nathanael’s encounter with Jesus led him to recognize Jesus as the Son of God and the King of Israel.
Bartholomew’s life reminds us of the transformative power of an encounter with Christ. Like Bartholomew, we are called to seek and recognize Jesus in our lives, to let our faith shape our actions, and to share the good news with others.
Application: Reflect on your own journey of faith. How have you encountered Jesus in your life? Like Bartholomew, share the story of your faith with someone who might be seeking or questioning, and invite them to discover who Jesus is.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the life and witness of Saint Bartholomew. Help me to be open to encountering You in new ways and to share my faith with others. May my life be a testimony to Your love and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Challenge: Share your testimony or a story of how you have experienced God’s presence in your life with someone who may need encouragement or is curious about faith.
